November 1, 2020 Johannesburg, South Africa - This month South Africa’s favourite online casino is celebrating one of the country’s most iconic animals, the mighty Hippopotamus. On its new Happy Hippos page, Springbok Casino has published stories about what Hippos eat, where they live and how they spend their days (and nights). One discusses hippos in ancient Egypt. There’s even one that delves into their polygamous sex lives.
“Hippos aren’t fat – they’re just thick skinned!” explained Springbok’s manager, Daniel van Wyke. “They are the third largest land animal though, after elephants and white rhinos!”
“Behold the hippopotamus – we laugh at how he looks to us!” laughed Van Wyke, quoting Ogden Nash. “And yet in moments dank and grim, I wonder how we look to him!”
Some random hippo facts:
South Africa’s most famous hippo was known as Huberta. In 1928, she left her St Lucia home to go on a 1600 kilometer walk that took more than three years. She became quite a celebrity as she passed through town after town and even attended a posh party at the Durban Country Club. After crossing more than 120 rivers she finally settled in the Keiskamma River.
Fiona the Hippo Princess was also famous when, in 2017, she was the first hippo to be born at the Cincinnati Zoo in 75 years. Until the end of November, players can take 25 free spins on one of the casino’s most popular slot games, Lucha Libre 2.
Lucha Libre 2 features the affable wrestler, Taco Malo (from the original Lucha Libre) and his fearsome new competitor, Nacho Friend. Players choose one of three hilarious wrestling moves for Taco Malo to use. When he wins in the ring, players win prize multipliers and free spins.
With hundreds of slots and table games, all played in Rands, and customer service available in either Afrikaans or English, Springbok Casino is South Africa's favourite place to play real money online casino games.
