Oppenheimer is a heavy favourite to come out on top against nine competitors. Maestro is also a beautifully crafted film, and Poor Things may be seen as a dark horse, but Oppenheimer is expected to have the edge. --- Bradley Cooper gave one of the standout performances of the year in Maestro, but Cillian Murphy is tipped to claim the Best Actor award for his performance in Oppenheimer. Poor Things reimagines the classic Frankenstein tale Emma Stone provides the heart and soul of this film, which should be recognised at the Oscars. While it’s a little surprising Gosling has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor in Barbie and lead actress Margot Robbie has not, Gosling brought an iconic character to life with respect and freshness. Robert Downey Jr. is also expected to be in the mix for his role in Oppenheimer. Da’Vine Joy Randolph’s authenticity and rawness in The Holdovers could see her edge out Emily Blunt and Jodie Foster, nominated for their roles in Oppenheimer and Nyad respectively. Ryan Gosling proved he can sing as well as act when performing I’m Just Ken in his role in Barbie. Other contenders for Best Original Song include It Never Went Away from American Symphony and Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People) from Killers of the Flower Moon.
