DigiPlus Interactive Corp Targets South African Sports Betting Market

Carol Tshabalala Partnered with HollywoodbetsPhilippines-based gaming technology firm DigiPlus Interactive Corp has announced plans to enter the South African online sports betting market. The company confirmed on Friday that it will apply for three licences with the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board (WCGRB): a National Manufacturer Licence, Bookmaker Licence, and Bookmaker Premises Licence. It also intends to secure key employee licences to ensure appropriate operational leadership.

The licensing process, expected to take around six months, will include rigorous probity checks on both the company and its ultimate beneficial owners. DigiPlus stated that final submission to the WCGRB and platform testing will follow the completion of these checks.

South Africa Viewed as Strategic Gateway into Africa

DigiPlus Chairman Eusebio Tanco described the move as a significant step in the firm’s international expansion, citing South Africa as a key entry point into the wider African market. “South Africa is not just the largest online gaming market in Africa, it’s a gateway to the continent’s digital future,” he said. This expansion follows DigiPlus’s recent entry into Brazil’s regulated iGaming sector.

According to the company, South Africa’s online betting industry is among the most developed on the continent, with digital sports betting accounting for nearly half of total gaming revenues. With a strong mobile user base and widespread interest in live sports, DigiPlus sees potential for tailored sports betting products that align with local preferences and compliance frameworks.

International Growth Amid Domestic Industry Pressures

While DigiPlus advances abroad, it faces domestic headwinds in the Philippines. The company’s share price has fallen over 70% from its peak due to ongoing political debate around banning domestic online gambling. Recent regulatory actions have further complicated the local operating environment.

Despite this, the company remains committed to its international strategy, which includes expanding into mature and regulated markets, such as South Africa. As interest in sports betting continues to grow across the country, South African players can look to well-regulated platforms—such as those listed on our site—for secure and licensed betting experiences that meet local standards.
